Arlington: Volleyball teams forming
Arlington Boys & Girls Club offers volleyball for boys and girls in third grade through high school beginning Sept. 12.
Registration goes through Sept. 9. Teams practice two nights a week with games on Saturday.

Granite Falls: State awards wastewater treatment plant
The Granite Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant team recently received an award from the state Department of Ecology’s Northwest Regional Office.
The award recognizes a high level of performance in meeting the terms of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the permit program controls water pollution by regulating sources such as pipes or manmade ditches that discharge pollutants into waters.
This is the second consecutive year that the plant’s team has received the award.
Marysville: Kids get to climb on trucks
Children of all ages will have a chance to sit in the driver’s seat, honk horns and kick the tires on a variety of big rigs Sept. 10 at Touch a Truck.
The free event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Asbery Field, 1605 7th St. NE. Horns and sirens will be from 10 a.m. to noon.
Vehicles are set to include a dump truck, vactor truck, police vehicles, street sweeper, fire engines and garbage trucks.
Marysville Noon Rotary Club is planning to offer activities for kids and the Marysville Kiwanis Club plans to have food for sale.

Stanwood: Closures of 12th Avenue NW
The Snohomish County Department of Public Works advises motorists of lane closures and periodic road closures on 12th Ave NW beginning Wednesday through Sept. 30.
The closures are between Sunday Lake Road and 252nd Street NW while crews replace a culvert.

Stanwood: Genealogy workshop Saturday
Genealogists of all levels are invited to the Stanwood Library for a two-hour research ancestry workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the library meeting room, 9701 271st St. NW.
Rob Branigin, one of Sno-Isle Libraries two genealogy experts, plans to offer tips on tracking down ancestors using Ancestry Library Edition, a genealogy database that library patrons can use at the library to locate census, immigration, and other records.
Participants can use one of 12 laptops provided by Sno-Isle or can bring their own.

Food and music festival this weekend
The area’s new Slow Food Roots Music Festival offers two days of food and music.
Gates open at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Stanwood-Camano Fairgrounds.
Farmers, cooks, authors, crafters and musicians plan to be on hand.
The music lineup includes Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Dave Alvin, Los Straitjackets, the Moondoggies and Knut Bell.
Tickets are $20 or $35 for two days. Kids and seniors get in for $10 a day.
