LAKE STEVENS — Competitors will test their strength and endurance later this month in a Ironman triathlon at Lake Stevens.
Athletes will start at roughly 6 a.m. Aug. 14, with a 1.2 mile swim in Lake Stevens and continue on to a challenging 56-mile bike ride through Snohomish County. The even
t will end with a 13.1 mile run along the north side of Lake Stevens.
The event has been often been forgotten because of other events hosted in the area, said Melody Sedy, marketing director for the Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce.
She hopes to get as many volunteers as possible to help contribute in the event.
“The committee is working very hard to ensure that all of the athletes and spectators are well taken care of,” Sedy said. “We need all hands on deck so to speak.”
Volunteers are needed to help make for a safe a successful event.
Ironman athletes from out of the area are looking for host families to stay with during the event, and applications to help volunteer can be found on the Ironman website.
