50 years ago (1961)

Two young local people were serving as guides in two of the city’s big plants this summer while vacationing from college. Peggy Knapp was at Weyerhaeuser and Bill Gunderson was with Scott Paper.

Those in Snohomish County could tune into Radio KQTY for live coverage of the Diamond Cup unlimited hydroplane race at Lake Coeur d’ Alene. It was sponsored by Robinson Marina, H & H Motors, Edgewater TV and Sales Training, Inc.

25 years ago (1986)

Snohomish angler Herbert Warren had plenty of good eating and lots of bragging rights ahead over the 56-pound, 13-ounce king salmon he caught off Whidbey Island near Clinton. He was fishing with Chuck Currie, also of Snohomish, and checked in the fish at McConnell’s Boathouse in Mukilteo. Manager Pat Cummins said it was the largest he’d ever seen brought in there.

This August boat builder Tom Nelson was moving his business from the crowded shores of Lake Union in Seattle to the banks of the Snohomish River just off First St. in Snohomish. He was restructuring his business so he could roll up his sleeves and take part in the actual construction.
