DUVALL — Pitcher Kimberly Martinez led the Granite Falls softball team to a 7-1 victory against Cedarcrest in Monday’s Cascade Conference game at Cedarcrest High School. The freshman pitched a complete game and gave up just one walk, a run and seven hits and added five strikeouts.
“She did an excellelent job hitting her spots, and keeping the ball away from their big hitters. She was able to pitch around them…and not give them anything to hit,” said Granite Falls coach Candi Reeves about Martinez. “She’s so composed out there, and handles the pressure so well for being so young. She has so much poise and finesse out there on mound.”
Logan Thomas batted 3-for-4 for the Tigers with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Peyton Spencer hit a double, stole a base and had three RBI, also hitting 3-for-4 for Granite Falls. Emily Walbon was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, adding an RBI for the Tigers. Walbon and Spencer, along with Cacia Stevens, each hit an RBI in the first inning to give Granite Falls the early 3-0 lead after one inning.
The win keeps Granite Falls alone atop the Cascade Conference standings.
Cedarcrest’s Sue Kenney batted 2-for-4 and hit a double, Cedarcrest’s only extra-base hit of the game.
