MARYSVILLE — Veronica Ladines hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to cap a five-run comeback and propel Arlington past previously unbeaten Marysville Pilchuck 10-5 in a Wesco North softball game Thursday night.
Ladines homer was part of a six-run inning that enabled Arlington take the lead after trailing 5-4.
The win enabled the Eagles to close the gap between them and division-leading MP to just 1/2 game in the league standings.
Ladines pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. She also batted 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI.
The Tomahawks built a 5-0 lead after plating five in the third inning, but Ladines held them scoreless the rest of the way and Arlington went on to score 10 unanswered runs.
Arlington began its assault by chipping away with three runs in the top half of the fourth inning. Three consecutive hits to begin the inning forced MP head coach KT Allyn to go to her bullpen in relief of starter Monica Clow. Riley Fritz was able to get the Tomahawks out of the inning while still maintaining a 5-3 lead.
Arlington would add another run in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4 and then finished with the six-run seventh.
“I’ve got to give Arlington a ton of credit. They played hard and never gave up after we took the early lead,” Allyn said. “Arlington is definitely going into their next game with some momentum having played well and beaten an undefeated team.”
Fritz went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Tomahawks.
