Harper is showing he doesn’t get it

Once again, newly elected state Sen. Nick Harper (D-Everett), disappoints his constituents. The Herald headline, “Legislators reintroduce bill to build speedway” last Sunday reported that Sen. Harper has joined a group of out-

of-touch legislators to push a bill (SB 5856) that would create a NASCAR racetrack.

Sen. Harper obviously has no problem with creating “a board of directors with broad powers to guide construction and operation of the raceway, including the ability to levy sales taxes.” As if our property taxes are not high enough!

This is the second controversial measure being advocated by Sen. Harper. Recently, he acknowledged his support for the city of Everett’s request for $300,000 of state money to pay for cameras in Everett city parks.

As a progressive Democrat, I am terribly disappointed we elected a person who has no regard for the state’s financial crisis.
