Granite Falls, Lynnwood libraries add fax machines

GRANITE FALLS — Jude Anderson used to be asked questions every day about where to find a fax machine in the city.

Now the Granite Falls managing librarian can point just a few steps away.

Her library at 815 E. Galena St. and the Lynnwood Library, at 19200 44th Ave. W., each have added a self-service fax machine. It’s part of a Sno-Isle Libraries pilot project inspired by frequent requests for the equipment.

The machines can be used with a debit or credit card. Costs are $1.50 for the first page and $1 for each additional page.

At both libraries, people who do not have a credit card can purchase a prepaid card at the front desk. The cards are purchased by Granite Falls Friends of the Library and Lynnwood Friends of the Library and resold at cost.

There is no cost to the libraries to supply the fax service. Those who use the machines are able to send but not receive a fax.

“We don’t make anything off it, but it’s something we’re glad to be able to do for the community,” Anderson said.

The Lynnwood Library also received requests for a fax machine, said Roxanna Garrison, assistant managing librarian.

“People were constantly coming in and asking us, ‘Do you have a fax machine?’” she said. “It’s being used quite a bit.”

The fax machines were installed at the libraries late last year.
