Family disaster prep training
Families can learn tips for preparing for a disaster and enter a drawing to win a mini preparedness kit at 6 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Arlington Library, 135 N Washington Ave. Michelle Boll, program coordinator for the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management, leads this short workshop on what to do when your family has to evacuate or live without such basic services as electricity, heat, water or phone.

Health care sign-up aid
Get help applying for Medicaid and low-cost health coverage plans, as well as help signing up for food and cash assistance programs, at drop-in events set for 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays this month at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W.

Snohomish students ‘Future Ready’
Snohomish School District holds a “Future Ready” Education Expo, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at Valley View Middle School, 14308 Broadway Ave., Snohomish. Teachers and students will demonstrate how they are using technology to learn with hands-on activities focused on such topics as computer coding, robots, 3D printing and more.

Donate cold weather gear
The YWCA is in need of cold weather survival gear including hand warmers, tents, sleeping bags and flashlights for the annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count on Jan. 23. Items can be dropped off between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 6027 208th St. SW in Lynnwood or at 3301 Broadway in Everett.

What to do with DNA test results
Mary Kathryn Kozy gives the lecture, “I’ve Had My DNA Tested, Now What?” at the Jan. 9 meeting of the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society.
