Silvertips beat Portland for their third straight win

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Everett Silvertips won their third straight game Sunday night, defeating the Portland Winterhawks 4-2 in front of 6,037 fans at the Moda Center.
With the victory, the Silvertips (6-3-0-0, 12 points) took over first place in the Western Hockey League’s U.S. Division, one point ahead of both Portland and Seattle.
Martin Fasko-Rudas, Akash Bains, Wyatte Wylie and Bryce Kindopp each scored a goal for the Silvertips. Bains’ goal was his first of the season.
Dustin Wolf made 30 saves to earn the win in goal.
Everett won despite being outshot 32-20.
The Silvertips’ penalty-killing unit enjoyed a stellar night. The Winterhawks, owners of the league’s No. 1-ranked power-play unit, were 0-for-10 on the power play.
Fasko-Rudas scored Everett’s first goal at 15:25 of the first period. He was left unchecked at the net and deposited a feed from Riley Sutter for a 1-0 lead.
Bains scored at 5:07 of the second period to give Everett a 2-0 lead. After Reece Newkirk got Portland on the board, Wylie snuck a wrister from the blueline past Portland goaltender Shane Farkas’ glove to restore the Tips’ two-goal lead.
Robbie Fromm-Delorme’s goal with 1:36 remaining in the second period got Portland to within a goal, but the Winterhawks could not get the equalizer.
Kindopp sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 24 seconds remaining.
