The season of giving: donate socks, toys for good causes

1. Socktober.
Socks are the most requested clothing item at homeless shelters.
Peoples Bank’s sock donation campaign, “Share a Pair During Socktober,” is aiming to donate 5,000 new pairs of socks by the end of the month to nonprofit organizations serving homeless people.
Here’s a few ways you can help:
Donate new, unopened pairs of socks at Peoples Bank branches in Mill Creek, Everett, Edmonds and Snohomish.
Make a cash donation at the local branches.
Take a picture of your “fun socks” — think colorful, whacky, etc. — and share it on Instagram or Facebook. Tag photos with #shareapair. Or visit a branch wearing your fun socks and agree to a photo that will be shared on social media. In either case, People’s Bank will donate a pair of socks to nonprofits.

2. Paint a selfie.
It’s time to take your selfie game to the next level.
Create a self-portrait at Schack Art Center’s upcoming “Painting in Oil” classes in Everett.
Working from a photo, students will learn the principles of composition, light and palette choice, while focusing on facial features and expressions of the human face.
The result will be a 11-by-14-inch or 16-by-20-inch painting for you to keep.
Three sessions — held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 6 to Nov. 20 — cost $130 for non-members and $120 for members.

3. Season of giving.
Donate toys and bring smiles to children.
Snohomish County’s U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Toys program is collecting new, unwrapped toys from 3 to 8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Historic Everett Theatre.
The donation drive will also include a fashion show, musical performances and door prizes. Suggested donation is $10; proceeds benefit the program.
