HEADS UP

Mill Creek Sports Park to close for rehab

Mill Creek Sports Park is scheduled to close from Jan. 1 until April as crews undertake a project to replace turf and lighting. Work could start before the closure.

The City Council in November approved a contract with FieldTurf USA for more than $900,000. The project will replace worn-out turf. It also will upgrade lighting for the field, skate park and parking lot, among other improvements.

The park opened in 2004, providing synthetic turf fields for baseball and soccer. Local youth sports groups rent it for an average of more than 2,600 hours every year.
