Woman, 80, dies after being hit by Jeep on Whidbey Island

LANGLEY — A pedestrian died after being hit by a Jeep when she tried to cross Highway 525 on Whidbey Island.

Virginia E. Nelson, 80, was crossing the highway around 7:40 p.m. Monday at Useless Bay Avenue, about three miles east of Freeland, according to the Washington State Patrol.

She was hit by a 2002 Jeep Wrangler in the southbound lane. She died around 1 a.m. Tuesday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

State troopers continued to investigate the crash.
