EVERETT — Officers have arrested a Lake Stevens man for investigation of first-degree rape and second-degree assault.
He’s accused of following a woman into her home, injecting her with a sedative and sexually assaulting her.
The suspect, 35, met two sisters outside their Everett apartment on Friday. He walked up to the women around 10 p.m. and asked for a cigarette.
He began to tell them about a divorce he was going through. One of the women could relate and invited him inside. The other sister eventually went to sleep while the two continued to talk.
The woman became uncomfortable when the man started to close the blinds and asked if he could stay the night. She said she had to put her 4-year-old daughter to sleep and told him to go. She gave him her phone number to get him to leave.
He allegedly returned uninvited around 10 a.m. the next day and found the other sister outside. She was watching her niece.
He asked for another cigarette. She went inside to grab one, and he allegedly walked in behind her. The man asked if he could use the bathroom, and the woman hesitantly said yes, according to police.
When he returned, he reportedly tackled her to the ground and stuck her arm with a hypodermic needle a few times. She immediately felt paralyzed and the man took her into the bathroom, she later told investigators.
She remembers being assaulted, but eventually lost consciousness and woke up in a bedroom, according to the arrest report.
The woman met with detectives at the hospital later that day. Her sister then received a call from the suspect who asked for a ride. He gave his address. The woman told officers where to find him.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man around 8 p.m. He claimed the contact was consensual. Officers also found multiple syringes on him during a search, documents say.
He was booked on Saturday into the Snohomish County Jail, where initially his bail was set at more than $500,000. He remained behind bars Monday evening.
He also had a warrant out for his arrest due to a pending case of second-degree vehicle theft.
