Midsummer dance
Tickets are available now to the Midsummer Hoedown and BBQ with the South End String Band, set for 5 p.m. Aug. 17. at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road.
Eat, dance and gather with neighbors. The menu includes grilled chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs, plus side dishes and a no host bar. Tickets are on www.eventbrite.com for $35 per person, $65 per family and $10 for students under 18 years old.

Marysville school supply drive
Hundreds of Marysville, Lakewood and Tulalip students are in need of school supplies for the upcoming school year. You can help by donating all sorts of school supplies including headphones, notebook paper, markers, pencils, erasers and more before Aug. 9.
Donations can be dropped off at designated locations throughout the area including at City of Marysville Parks, Culture and Recreation, 6915 Armar Road; Marysville Community Food Bank, 4150 88th St. NE; Marysville School District Service Center, 4220 80th St. NE; Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce, 8825 34th Ave. NE, Suite C; Tulalip Tribes Youth Services, 6700 Totem Beach Road; Fred Meyer, 9925 State Avenue; any Marysville Fire District station, Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St.; HomeStreet Bank, 1238 State Ave.; Heritage Bank, 1031 State Ave.; ProAction Physical Therapy, 6618 64th St. NE, Suite D; Coastal Community Bank, 319 State Ave. No. 105 and Curves, 1522 3rd St.

OPPORTUNITIES
Classes for retirees
The Creative Retirement Institute offers classes for adults in the arts, humanities and sciences taught by experienced instructors through Edmonds Community College.
The weekly classes are held for one to four weeks for about two hours per session. Don’t worry, there won’t be any tests or homework.
Registration begins Aug. 15.

Youth science mash-up
See sound dance, explore light, magnets and more with hands-on science experiments presented by Christine of Grinnin Fish at the Everett Main Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
The event is from 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 3. It is free and recommended for youth going into sixth to ninth grades.
