Prep football results for Friday, Oct. 4

Week 5 of the prep football season saw conference races around the area take shape, with many favored teams coming away with victories that will help solidify runs at postseason berths.
Lake Stevens, Monroe and Glacier Peak all came away with convincing road victories to further their push for three of Wesco 4A’s four Week 10 playoff sports.
Marysville Pilchuck and Ferndale each rolled to home victories to stay unbeaten in Wesco 3A North play, setting up for an Oct. 18 matchup at Marysville Pilchuck that could have huge conference-title implications. And Arlington held on for a dramatic victory over Marysville Getchell, stopping the Chargers on a 2-point conversion attempt in the games final minutes to secure a 14-13 home win. The victory keeps the Eagles just a game back of Marysville Pilchuck and Ferndale in the loss column.
Edmonds-Woodway moved into sole possession of first place in Wesco 3A South with a 28-13 win over an upstart Lynnwood squad and some help from Shorecrest, which converted a 2-point try in the final minute to knock off Snohomish 36-35 in a down-to-the-wire battle.
Lynden and Archbishop Murphy picked up lopsided wins in Northwest 2A Sky Division play, and preseason favorite Cedar Park Christian survived an early scare from Granite Falls, running away with a 55-29 victory after scoring 28 unanswered third-quarter points.
In all, Week 5 didn’t present much surprise, but some dramatic finishes brought some flavor to Friday night. Here’s how it all went down:
Glacier Peak 35, Cascade 14

Lake Stevens 62, Kamiak 6
Tanner Jellison threw five touchdown passes, two to Joe Gonzales, as the top-ranked Vikings dominated Kamiak in a Wesco 4A game.
Dallas Landeros added two touchdowns on the ground for Lake Stevens, which improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Wesco 4A with the win.
Syrus Vannatta hauled in a long touchdown pass from Nick Laman to account for Kamiak’s score. The Knights fell to 0-5, 0-3 with the loss.

Monroe 55, Mount Vernon 14

Mariner 30, Jackson 0
Mariner built a 16-point halftime lead on its way to a Wesco 4A road victory over Jackson.
The Marauders improve to 2-3 (2-1 Wesco 4A). The Timberwolves fall to 0-5 (0-3).

Arlington 14, Marysville Getchell 13
Arlington stopped Marysville Getchell’s 2-point conversion in the final minutes of regulation and held on for a Wesco 3A North home win over Marysville Getchell.
Trent Nobach found Cade Younger for a 22-yard four-quarter touchdown pass and Cole Cramer converted his second extra-point attempt of the night for the difference-making score to lead Eagles (4-1, 3-1 Wesco 3A North).
Josiah Koellmer ran and threw for a touchdown for the Chargers (1-4, 1-3).

Ferndale 48, Oak Harbor 22
Ferndale got three rushing touchdowns from Jacob Broselle in a 41-point first-half effort and routed Oak Harbor in a Wesco 3A North matchup.
The Golden Eagles (3-2 overall, 3-0 league) also benefitted from two touchdowns from Isaiah Carlson — one rushing, one receiving — in the win.
Brenden Andersen got Oak Harbor (1-4, 0-3) on the board with a pair of fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns.

Marysville Pilchuck 56, Stanwood 22

Edmonds-Woodway 28, Lynnwood 13
Steele Swinton ran for a pair of touchdowns to help Edmonds-Woodway stay unbeaten in league play with a Wesco 3A South home win over Lynnwood.
Quarterback Read Carr delivered a touchdown through the air and on the ground for the Warriors (3-2, 3-0 Wesco 3A South), who jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead.
Daniel Tran ran for a TD for the Royals (3-2, 1-2).

Shorewood 27, Everett 7
Shorewood rushed for 242 yards and held Everett to just 176 yards of offense in a Wesco 3A South victory.
After a scoreless first half, Kody Carpenter ran for two third-quarter touchdowns to get the Thunderbirds (2-3 overall, 1-3 Wesco 3A) rolling, and after Everett (0-5, 0-3) cut the lead to 14-7 with a scoring run by Noah Schmid, Shorewood closed it out.
Spencer Osborn’s quarterback keeper put the Thunderbirds back up 21-7, and JR Shirai’s 32-yard pick-six sealed the win.
Ibrahim Benzina (13 carries for 72 yards) and Cole Becker (seven for 84) also had strong days on the ground for Shorewood.
The T-Birds’ defense registered three interceptions, three sacks and two fumble recoveries against Everett.

Shorecrest 36, Snohomish 35

Lynden 37, Lakewood 6
Steven DiLorenzo led Lynden to a 37-6 win over Lakewood with two rushing touchdowns and one 40-yard touchdown catch.
Lynden moves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in 2A Northwest Sky Division play. Lakewood is 4-1 (1-1).
Jared Taylor gave the Cougars their only touchdown in the first quarter with a 4-yard rush.

Archbishop Murphy 43, Blaine 0
Third-ranked Archbishop Murphy racked up 379 yards of offense and held Blaine under 100 in a Northwest 2A Sky victory.
Joe Ennis and Mason Mathis ran for two touchdowns apiece, and Josiah Santiago added another score on the ground.
The Wildcats (4-1 overall, 1-1 league) held the Borderites (1-4, 0-2) to 77 yards on offense and forced three Blaine turnovers.

Sehome 14, Mountlake Terrace 7
Sehome scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter and held on to beat Mountlake Terrace in the Northwest Conference 2A Lake Division league opener for both teams.
Sehome improved to 3-2 on the season and Mountlake Terrace fell to 1-3.

Cedar Park Christian 55, Granite Falls 29
John Petrus ran for seven touchdowns to lead Cedar Park Christian to a North Sound Conference home victory over Granite Falls.
Six of Petrus’ seven TD runs went for 20 yards or longer and the Eagles (4-1, 1-0 North Sound Conference) blew the game open with a 28-point third quarter.
Ryan Gese found Mason McBride for three second-quarter scoring strikes to lead the Tigers (1-4, 0-1).

South Whidbey 42, Sultan 19
Billy Rankin lead South Whidbey to a 42-19 win over Sultan with a pair of rushing touchdowns on Friday night.
South Whidbey moves to 1-0 in North Sound Conference play and 4-1 overall. Sultan is now 0-1 (1-4).
William Bennett completed a 7-yard pass for a fourth-quarter touchdown to Zane Sailor for the Turks.

Squalicum 48, Meadowdale 28

King’s 52, Raymond 14
Hayden Teeter ran for two touchdowns and threw for another score as King’s routed Raymond in a non-league home game.
Teeter threw for 82 yards and added 58 more on the ground and Cutter Rolfs totaled 172 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries to help the Knights (1-4) to their first victory of the season.
Note: Raymond forfeited the game in the third quarter due to safety concerns.

Cedarcrest 28, Renton 7
Cameron Kohlruss tossed three touchdown passes as Cedarcrest jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead in a non-conference road win over Renton.
Kohlruss found Cody Hulse for two of his three scoring strikes and Sean Shannon returned a fumble 12 yards for a score to help lead the Red Wolves (4-1, 1-0 Northwest 2A Lake).
