Shake it
At 10:17 a.m. Thursday, millions of people worldwide will practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” for the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill.
During an earthquake, you should drop to the ground (before the earthquake drops you), take cover under a sturdy desk or table, and hold on to it until the shaking stops.
If there’s no table or desk near, drop to the ground in an inside corner of the building and cover your head and neck with your hands and arms. Do not try to run to another room just to get under a table.

Green tour
The Green Snohomish Group is offering two guided tours starting promptly at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. There is no charge to participate, though a $5 donation is appreciated toward the cost of brochures.
Coffee will be donated by Looking Glass Coffee. The tour takes about two hours. Brochures are available to take the tour on your own, later. Suitable for all fitness levels. This is a rain-or-shine event.
Meet at Looking Glass Coffee Shop, 801 First St. in Snohomish. Tour signup begins at 10:45 a.m.

Sheriff candidates face off
Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary and sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Fortney, who is challenging his boss in the Nov. 5 election, are set to answer questions during a forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.
This is the only political forum exclusively for the sheriff’s race. The venue is the county’s east administration building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. Sponsors include: UNITOS (Uniting Law Enforcement and Communities); the Faith Action Network; the NAACP’s Snohomish County branch; SnoCo Indivisible; and the North Sound Progressive People’s Summit.

Science labs for little ones
Little Science Lab programs at Sno-Isle Libraries community libraries are for children ages 3 to 5 to discover STEM concepts — science, technology, engineering and math. A museum educator guides the hands-on learning exercise.
Imagine Children’s Museum in Everett received grant money from the Discuren Foundation and the Boeing Co. to bring Little Science Lab programs to several local libraries.
Little Science Labs are at the Sultan Library at 11 a.m. Wednesdays, Granite Falls Library at 10 a.m. Fridays and Lake Stevens Library at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays starting Oct. 17, and Lakewood/Smokey Point Library at noon Fridays starting Nov. 1.
The remaining Sno-Isle Libraries community libraries will schedule Little Science Lab classes in the coming weeks at sno-isle.org/events. Mariner Library plans to offer bilingual Little Science Lab classes and Lynnwood Library is looking at possible evening classes.
