Everett school bond, Lakewood levy failing in new tallies

EVERETT — Another round of ballot counting didn’t change the prospects of a proposed technology levy in the Lakewood School District or a school bond in Everett.

Updated tallies released Thursday showed support for Lakewood’s two-year measure at 49.4%, a tenth of a percentage point lower than Wednesday’s total.

Thursday’s results did not alter the outlook for the proposed $317.4 million construction bond for the Everett School District, either.

Support for that proposition was at 57.8%, slightly less than the 58.1% mark reached on Election Night.

State law requires a bond measure receive at least 60% for passage, while levies need a simple majority for approval.

Snohomish County Auditor Garth Fell said turnout will be close to 50% of the county’s 488,000 registered voters. About 35.3% of those ballots had been tallied as of Wednesday.

Within the boundaries of the Everett School District, there are 83,334 registered voters and 34% of their ballots had been returned.

The next round of results is due out Friday afternoon.
