Monroe corrections officer attacked by inmate

MONROE — An officer was attacked by an inmate Tuesday evening in the day room of the special offenders unit at the Monroe Correctional Complex.

The officer was treated and released from Valley General Hospital in Monroe.

The offender was placed in a segregation unit. The assault occurred around 6:30 p.m., said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Norah West.

No weapons were involved, she said.
