ARLINGTON — An Arlington man who died in a crash on I-5 last week has been identified.

Jason Vogan, 45, went to help a friend whose car had broken down around 4:30 p.m. Feb. 8. Vogan pulled over in front of his friend’s car on the right shoulder of northbound I-5, just south of Highway 530.

Ismael Cruz Sanchez, 21, of Burlington, was driving north in a black BMW when he reportedly struck one of the parked vehicles, pushing it into Vogan and his friend. Vogan died at the scene. His cause of death was determined to be blunt force injuries, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The friend, of Stanwood, was sent to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett with a broken leg and ribs, according to a police report.

Cruz Sanchez was booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett for investigation of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, felony driving under the influence and three misdemeanors.

The Burlington man remained behind bars Tuesday afternoon with bail set at $1 million.
