U.S. spends far more on military than on education

Political leanings aside, a recent letter to the editor regarding military versus education spending, challenged readers to “look it up on the internet.” So I did.

According to data lab.usaspending.gov, the military budget is 11 percent ($755 billion) while spending on education is about 4 percent ($297 billion). Although the writer’s opinion on education is biased, his argument starts with unproven facts.

Yes, the U.S. is ranked 38th in math and 24th in science (Business Insider, 2018) but perhaps this may me due to government spending on education failing to keep up with inflation.
