The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 8-14. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper.

Shane Nelson | Marysville Pilchuck | Baseball

Nelson, a senior, blasted a go-ahead grand slam home run that stood up as the winning runs in a 5-3 win over Stanwood on April 2, giving the Tomahawks their first victory of the season. Nelson won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for April 1-7 by claiming 278 (46.18%) of the 602 votes.

This week’s nominees

Eddie Carli | Shorecrest | Boys Soccer

Carli, a sophomore, scored three goals as the Scots defeated Mountlake Terrace 5-0 on April 10.

Conrad Chisman | Stanwood | Boys Golf

Chisman, a senior, shot a 3-under par 69 to claim medalist honors by three strokes at the Lake Stevens Invite on April 10 at the Rope Rider course at Suncadia Resort. He led the Spartans to the team title.

Gianna Frank | Marysville Pilchuck | Girls Track and Field

Frank, a senior, won the shot put in a meet against Meadowdale and Cascade on April 10. Her mark of 40 feet, 3 inches was not only a personal record, it placed her fourth in the state across all classifications.

Maya Mesa | Glacier Peak | Softball

Mesa, a senior, struck out 14 batters in earning the win in the circle, and also homered and drove in three runs in an 11-1 victory over Lynnwood on April 8.

Dallas Miller | Arlington | Boys Track and Field

Miller, a senior, won the 100 meters (11.37 seconds), 200 (22.81) and 400 (50.38) and also anchored the victorious 1,600 relay (3:32.28) as the Eagles edged Lake Stevens 80-79 on April 11.

Trey Nance | Lake Stevens | Baseball

Nance, a senior, threw a shutout with seven strikeouts and also drove in a run in a 3-0 victory over Glacier Peak on April 9.

Emerson Norris | Snohomish | Girls Tennis

Norris, a senior, earned three wins at No. 1 singles, beating Arlington’s Elle Aalbu 6-0, 6-0 on April 9, Lynden’s Anna Samoukovic 3-6, 7-6 (8), 10-6 on April 10 and Stanwood’s Alyssa Carlson 6-2, 6-1 on April 12 as the Panthers won all three matches.
