MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Thousands gathered on a park and a golf course Thursday in Mountlake Terrace to watch a fireworks show celebrating Independence Day.

Visitors sat on chairs, blankets or straight on the grass. They brought cameras, balloons and made impromptu fly swatters out of plastic bags to fight off gnats. Particularly large or loud fireworks drew expressions of “ooh,” “aah” and “wow” from the crowd.

It was only the second time 9-year old William Jackson had seen a fireworks show.

“I like the sparkly, popping fireworks,” he said. “The ones that go pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.”

Mountlake Terrace hosts its Independence Day events the day before the July 4 holiday. Fireworks were scheduled for Friday evening in Everett, Arlington and Marysville.
