Seattle Mariners reliever Tayler Saucedo struggled against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, allowing 5 earned runs in only 1/3 of an inning.

Saucedo was disappointed in himself for the outing, but he was even more disappointed with a message he received on Instagram afterwards.

A user wrote to Saucedo wishing death upon him and his family.

“I hope your [expletive] head gets blown off to pieces walking in Philly you ugly autistic piece of [expletive],” he shared that someone wrote. “Your [expletive] wife/gf dying too would be awesome as well.”

Athletes understand that they are in the public eye when they play professional sports and are going to receive criticism from time to time. But this message to Saucedo is obviously way overboard and uncalled for.

Not only did Saucedo share the message, he also made it clear that it upset him.

“I understand wanting me gone after today and this year as a whole. Nobody is more disappointed with how this year has gone for me than myself,” he posted on X. “Trust me, I want to win just as much as all of you, whether I’m here or not.

“But messaging me this [expletive] and my girlfriend and sending this stuff is beyond baseball. It’s insane how comfortable people are sending this stuff to not only me but my partner. Tell me I suck all you want, that’s fine, but at some point we gotta get a grip.”

Tayler Saucedo is in his fifth season of Major League Baseball and his third with the Seattle Mariners. He has appeared in seven games this season and has an 11.05 ERA in 7 1/3 innings pitched.

For his career, Saucedo is 5-2 with a 4.43 ERA and four saves. He has appeared in 145 career games.

The Phillies won Wednesday’s game 11-2.
