EVERETT — The brightest store on Hewitt Avenue is going out next month.

The Everett location of Seattle Lighting, located at 1811 Hewitt Ave in Everett, is closing its doors July 14. The reason, Store Manager Julie Frisbee said, is “just business.”

“It’s hard to do business when people are being strapped so harshly for money,” she said.

Frisbee, alongside the rest of the employees, found out the store was closing Thursday, she said. Later that day, signs were installed in the window advertising the store’s closing sale.

“Just putting the signs up; it’s been busy all day,” she said Thursday.

Everett’s Seattle Lighting employs four individuals, including one outside salesperson.

Display items from the store’s showroom are 75% off on a first-come, first-served basis.

Seattle Lighting executives did not respond to The Daily Herald’s requests for comment.

Employee Jenae Olson has worked at the Everett location for two years and said she is sad to see the store go.

“It’s been here a long time,” she added.

The Everett storefront opened in the ’80s, according to Historic Everett.

As one of the few places in the area that continued to do lighting services, the showroom attracted visitors from as far as Whidbey and Camano Islands, said employee Hunter Moehring.

Moehring began working for Seattle Lighting four months before the announcement.

“I’m very disappointed it ended so quickly. I enjoyed this job,” he said. “The environment was really nice.”

Seattle Lighting still operates locations in Seattle, Bellevue and Tacoma.
