Ford adds Tremor trim to 2025 Expedition SUV

The 2025 version of Ford’s venerable Expedition adds a Tremor trim for the first time.
Tremor transforms the full-size Expedition SUV into a highly capable off-roader while retaining its family-friendly three-row utility. It adds an upgraded high-output engine, lifted off-road suspension, all-terrain tires, and exclusive trail technologies direct from the factory.
My main task for the Expedition was a road trip with my buddy to Kelowna, B.C. to watch the Everett Silvertips participate in the 2026 Memorial Cup. The scenic, five-hour trek over two mountain passes, and towns of Hope, Merritt and Penticton, was traversed in spades.
The only pain suffered was trying to parallel park the beast three our four times once we arrived in town.
Powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, Expedition generated 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The Tremor did not blink, even climbing steep mountain grades and rain-slicken roads. It took my friend’s 25 year-old niece to figure out how to convert miles to kilometers after we arrived, since the Ford did not do that automatically at the border.
We folded the third-row seats flat to reveal a cavernous cargo area that dwarfed our small amount of luggage for the short, three-day trip. Gas consumption was a factor. Expedition delivered around 20 miles per gallon. After converting liters to gallons, and factoring in the exchange rate, it appeared we paid about another dollar per gallon over our already high U.S. cost.
Expedition includes four-wheel drive and includes a 10-speed automatic transmission with select shift. Tremor adds the flexibility of an electronic locking rear differential, rock crawl, trail one-pedal drive and trail turn assist.
Creature comforts were what we appreciated most. Highlights include perforated leather seats with heat and ventilation options for front and second-row passengers, a full-panoramic vista roof that floods the cabin with natural light, and a 24-inch panoramic gauge display and 13.2-inch center touchscreen.
The touchscreen allows for easy operation of Google Maps, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and XM radio. A premium, 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system cranked out classic rock tunes coming and going. Other goodies included USB-C ports and charging capabilities across all three rows, including a wireless phone charger in the front.
Other convenience and utility features included a split tailgate, both operated with the push of a button. The lower portion makes it easier to load small gear and for use as a bench. The center console slides backward and forward, allowing for increased storage and better cupholder access. A purse can even fit into the space if needed.
Completing the spoiling portion of the Tremor are zonal lighting and running boards. 360-degree zone lighting helps for setting up camp at night, and the power deployable running boards allowed my 90-year old in-laws to access for a short drive later in the week.
Exterior features include carbonized gray grille bars with ebony mesh, auxillary grille lights, and striking amber-active painted tow hooks. Eighteen-inch dark carbonized-gray painted aluminum wheels complete the look.
Safety technology was highlighted by Ford’s Co-Pilot3 suite of driver-assist technologies with BlueCruise hands-free driving, 360-degree surround-view camera, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping system, blind-spot information system, and electronic stability and roll stability control.
