Motocross track opponents want examiner to reconsider approval

GRANITE FALLS — Opponents of an off-road motorcycle track along the Mountain Loop Highway have asked a Snohomish County hearing examiner to reconsider approving the project.

Examiner pro tem Phil Olbrechts earlier this month gave the green flag to Kirkland-based MXGP’s plans to build a complex of tracks in the middle of more than 400 acres of forest. The examiner subjected the project to a list of conditions intended to reduce noise and other likely impacts.

Olbrechts has until early July to reach a decision. Opponents could appeal to the County Council after that.

Seattle land-use attorney David Bricklin filed the reconsideration motion Friday on behalf of the Mountain Loop Conservancy, the North Cascades Conservation Council and the Pilchuck Audubon Society.

For nearly a decade, efforts to build the track in various parts of the county have stumbled.
