I always enjoy me some hatchback.
Sorry about the grammar, but the sentiment is accurate. My latest tester was the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring model with a battleship gray coat of enamel.
In addition to being the best-selling car in its class, the Honda Civic has been the retail best-selling passenger car for three straight years. Civic is also the number-one choice for Millennials, Gen Z, multicultural and first-time buyers, making it an important gateway to the Honda brand. The 2020 Civic Hatchback for the U.S. market is manufactured exclusively by Honda’s Swindon, UK, plant.
With a price tag just under $30,000, it was worth every penny. Part of Civic’s success is the multitude of trim levels including LX, Sport (manual and CVT transmissions), EX, EX-L, and Sport Touring (manual and CVT transmissions).
My tester was powered by a 1.5-liter, direct-inject, turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine generates 180-horsepower, enough power to not leave you wanting, and still manages 35 miles per gallon down the highway fuel economy.
The Civic Sport Touring seats four adults in comfort, five in a squeeze, and the hatchback provides a generous amount of cargo space, albeit not hidden from prying eyes.
The Hatchback Sport Touring receives a host of changes for the 2020 model year, most notably an upgraded seven-inch touchscreen audio system with eight speakers (up from four) and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Now standard are Smart Start pushbutton ignition and Smart Entry keyless entry for improved ease of use. Sport trims equipped with the CVT also come with remote start for the first time. Additionally, Sport receives new seat upholstery unique to Sport trims, and a new embossed dash trim. For the line-topping Sport Touring trim, buyers now have a choice of either CVT automatic or 6-speed manual transmissions.
My tester came equipped with leather-trimmed seats, Bluetooth, USB ports, satellite radio, dual-zone climate control, navigation with multi-view rear camera, one-touch power moon roof, heated front and rear seats, sport (aluminum trimmed) pedals, electric parking brake and auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Exterior enhancements include a tailgate spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust, LED headlights and taillights and fog lights.
Honda Sensing delivers a suite of safety equipment to provide driver’s – and their families – with peace of mind. The suite is highlighted by adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking system, lane-keeping assist system and road-departure mitigation.
Honda packs a ton of value into the Civic, making it a tough option to ignore. Add Honda reliability and resell value and it’s simply irresistible.
