What is a Realtor?

People may assume that the term Realtor® applies to anyone holding a real estate license.

While all real estate brokers must be licensed, not all real estate licensees are Realtors®. There currently are more than 3,000 active licensed real estate professionals in Snohomish County; 1,400 of which have earned the right to call themselves Realtors®. Realtors® subscribe to a written code of ethics and have access to exclusive educational, business and market information.

For the past 100 years, when brokers choose to become Realtor® members they are agreeing to abide by a strict Realtor® Code of Ethics, which demands a higher standard of professional conduct.

In doing this, Realtors® maintain and improve the standards of their industry and share with their fellow Realtors® a common responsibility for integrity and honor by protecting the interests of consumers.

In addition to belonging to the largest professional association in the world, Realtors® are also active members in their local communities. Realtors® strive to create vibrant communities in which they live and work by advocating for the rights of homeowners and participating in neighborhood service activities.

The Snohomish County-Camano Association of Realtors® annually organizes a park clean-up event, local food drive and a charity auction to aid the homeless. As stated in the preamble of the National Association of Realtors® Code of Ethics, “The term Realtor® has come to connote competency, fairness and high integrity resulting from adherence to a lofty ideal of moral conduct in business relations.”

The Snohomish County-Camano Association of Realtors® is “the Voice for Real Estate in Snohomish County.” If you have questions for our expert about real estate, email us at info@sccar.com.
