Aviation High School has edged closer to its dream campus, breaking ground on its $43.5 million facility in south Seattle today.
The aviation-themed high school’s new campus at the Museum of Flight will be open for students in 2013.
“Today’s groundbreaking represents a giant step forward in securing the future of Aviation High School,” Reba Gilman, Aviation High School principal, said in a statement. “Since the school’s founding in 2004, we have dreamed of having a permanent home on a campus such as this one at the Museum of Flight.”
Aviation High School is part of the Highline Public School District, but accepts students from outside the district.
“This school and its commitment to science, technology, engineering and math and simultaneously preparing all students for college and work make it unlike any other school in Washington state,” said John Welch, Highline School District superintendent.
