The Boeing Co. has unveiled another 737 MAX customer: Aviation Capital Group.
For months, Boeing Co. officials have said they have hundreds of commitments for their 737 MAX, a re-engined version of the Renton-built aircraft.
Boeing launched the 737 MAX in August with 496 commitments. However, American Airlines was the only customer who had stepped forward.
On Thursday morning, Lion Air said it plans to order 201 Boeing 737 MAX jets.
This afternoon, Boeing said that leasing company Aviation Capital Group has committed to ordering 35 737 MAX jets and signed a firm order for 20 737-800 Next Generation jets.
Airlines and leasing companies often commit to order aircraft and complete the details later.
“These new 737NG and 737 MAX airplanes will continue our long-standing strategy of providing our customers the most fuel efficient, most capable airplanes with the lowest operating costs,” R. Stephen Hannahs, chief executive of Aviation Capital Group, said in a statement.
Boeing’s Jim Albaugh, president of its commercial airplanes division, told Reuters on Saturday that the company has 700 commitments for the 737 MAX from nine customers.
Boeing hasn’t said yet where it will build the 737 MAX. Yesterday, Gov. Chris Gregoire outlined her plan for winning that work here in Washington state.
