Tristan Klesick, president of Klesick Family Farm Inc. in Stanwood, has recently completed an 18-month agriculture and forestry leadership development program. The program is offered through the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Education Foundation. Klesick attended 14 seminars comprising 59 days of intensive training for service to the natural resource industries and rural communities of the state. The seminars are jointly sponsored by institutions of higher education and agriculture and forestry related businesses.

Ailsa Kellam has joined Terwedo Financial Services as director of development for the Edmonds-based financial planning company. Kellam replaces Denine Winstead, valued director of client development for the past seven years. A 15-year veteran of business development, Kellam joins Terwedo from the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce, where she served as development manager. Winstead has accepted a position elsewhere.

Robert Bryce has joined 1st Security Bank as vice president of commercial lending, with a focus on lending to small businesses and minority groups. Bryce has been active in the Snohomish County banking industry for more than 30 years. He has extensive experience in SBA government guaranteed lending, as well as loans to the Native American community.

LeAnna West, of Everett, has become an independent consultant with Tastefully Simple, a national direct sales company featuring more than 60 easy-to-prepare foods. Eva Smith has been hired as director of information technology at Edmonds Community College. A Bothell resident, Smith has worked at the college since 2001. She has taught in the computer information systems department and has helped develop and teach the college’s database information technologies curriculum. She earned her master of science in information management at the University of Washington in 2005.

New business

Melt Waffle & Frozen Yogurt has leased space for a new location in Mountlake Terrace. Melt’s CEO, Eugene Yang, said the company was set to begin construction by June 1 and plans to open the location in the 44th Avenue Plaza, at the corner of 44th Avenue West and 212th Street SW, by late July. The company plans to employ 10 or more full time staff and will be active in supporting community groups. Ten percent of the company’s profits in its first quarter will be donated to the DECA Clubs at Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood, and Edmonds-Woodway high schools.

Business awards

The Associated General Contractors of Washington announced its 2011 Build Washington Award winners May 19. Sicklesteel Cranes of Mount Vernon received the biggest safety prize, the grand award for construction excellence. Sicklesteel Cranes finished 2010 with no lost time due to safety problems and no recordable injuries. University Mechanical Contractors of Mukilteo also won in the safety excellence category. Exxel Pacific of Bellingham was honored in the construction excellence category for its Joule Apartments project in Seattle.

Sound Transit was honored Thursday with the National Women’s Transportation Seminar’s Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award. The award recognizes organizations, companies and individuals for outstanding efforts in promoting opportunities for women and minorities in the transportation industry. Leslie Jones, diversity program manager at Sound Transit, accepted the award on behalf of the agency. The transit agency was recognized for creating opportunities for disadvantaged business enterprises. The award also recognizes Sound Transit for building a diverse workforce.

New product

Fluke Electronics has introduced the 481 Radiation Survey Meter for industrial radiation safety. The hand-held radiation detector enables facility managers to quickly check for contamination at receiving docks, warehouses, in vehicles, packages or people.
