The Flying Heritage Collection plans to display a 30-ton Sherman tank at the Regal Stadium 16 theater at Everett Mall on Saturday for the first full day of the showing of “Fury,” a new World War II tank movie starring Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf.
The movie features a battle-scarred American tank crew and their Sherman tank nicknamed Fury. The 30-ton Sherman was the most common tank type used by the U.S. during World War II, and was the most-produced tank in U.S. history.
While never the best tank on the battlefield, Sherman tanks could be made quickly and in great numbers. Crewmen complained about how easily a Sherman would explode and burn when hit, and gave the tank grim nicknames like “the Tommy Cooker” and “Zippo” (it lights the first time, every time).
The tank will be on display near the doors of theater from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Visitors can also present a “Fury” ticket stub from Regal Stadium 16 to receive half-price admission to Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection and see the entire collection of military aircraft and vehicles.
