Korean Air has placed an order for two Boeing Co. 747-8 freighters, the companies announced Friday.
The order is worth roughly $639 million at list prices, but airlines don’t pay full price.
The order comes as Korean Air also decided to convert and delay its 787 orders. According to this Flightglobal report, Korean Air has converted its order for 787-8s to the larger 787-9s. The carrier, which expected delivery of its first 787-8 this year, now won’t see a 787-9 until 2016.
“Boeing is very fortunate to have Korean Air not only as a customer of the 747-8 Freighter, but also the 747-8 Intercontinental and also as a key partner on the 747-8 program,” said Marlin Dailey, vice president of sales and marketing for Boeing’s commercial airplanes division.
Boeing is expected to make first deliveries of its 787-8, 747-8 Freighter and 747-8 passenger plane this year. The 747-8 passenger plane, called the Intercontinental, is expected to make its first flight Sunday here in Everett.
