Power-On Testing Complete
787 Team:
Congratulations to the Systems team, Final Assembly and all of you who had a hand in completing our Power On milestone on the first 787 Dreamliner. This is a great day for Boeing and its partners. In April, I committed to the world we would achieve this milestone before the end of June. Your hard work made that happen. This accomplishment helps demonstrate to our customers, our partners, our regulators and everyone else who is watching us so intently that we are getting back on track.
With Power On, we have verified the integrity of the airplane’s electrical systems by proving they are installed as designed and function as intended. Our advancements in systems technology on the 787 — replacing the bleed-air system with electronics and creating a new, more efficient architecture for the distribution of power — is a testament to the bold innovative steps we have taken to make this airplane a real game-changer.
We have developed a dedicated Web site that captures actual tests, interviews with experts and provides executive commentary. The Web site will be available on Boeing.com beginning Monday, June 23. Feel free to look through it when it’s convenient for you. And as a token of our appreciation, managers will be delivering a recognition gift to 787 employees by the end of the week.
We have more work to finish and other challenges ahead of us. But I am confident we will overcome all of them. In the meantime, it’s important to take a moment today to celebrate and be proud of this significant accomplishment. After all, we are writing the next exciting chapter in aviation history.
Thank you all.
