Rolls-Royce does not believe there is a connection between an engine failure on an A380 jet last week and an incident with a Boeing 787 engine this summer.
The engine maker is investigating the uncontained failure of a Trent 900 engine on an Airbus A380 operated by Qantas last week. Rolls issued a statement today saying the problem is isolated to the Trent 900 engine.
Of the August incident involving a Trent 1000 engine, designed for the 787, Rolls said:
“This incident happened during a development programme with an engine operating outside normal parameters. We understand the cause and a solution has been implemented.”
Rolls will provide another update into the investigation of the Trent 900 engine failure on Friday.
