SNOHOMISH — The Snohomish Education Foundation will hold its Changing Lives with a Little Help from Our Friends campaign, which will run from Jan. 24 through Feb. 4. All proceeds raised from this campaign will be used to help fund classroom grants and purchase shoes for students in need.
Donation containers will be located at all Snohomish School District schools for the two weeks of the campaign. Community donation containers will be located at local Snohomish businesses during the month of February. Donations can also be made online at www.snoed.org.
“With the continued declining funds from the state for education, it is difficult for teachers to fund daily classroom needs,” said Michael Edwards, Snohomish Education Foundation president. “The classroom grants program awards educators and staff who bring creative and innovative education ideas into the classroom. The James Hansen Memorial Shoe Fund is used to purchase shoes for Snohomish School District students in kindergarten through 12th grade who cannot afford them.”
The Snohomish Education Foundation was formed in 1986 to help provide broader educational opportunities for Snohomish School District students. Since the group’s beginnings a quarter century ago:
More than $224,000 has been awarded in classroom grants to help support a variety of reading, literacy, technology, arts and sciences programs.
More than 830 Snohomish School District graduates have been awarded more than $679,000 in scholarships for vocation, two-year and four-year academic programs.
Hundreds of shoes have been purchased for students in grades K-6. About 300 students receive shoes through the program each year.
