The Boeing Co.’s new 747-8 cargo plane recently splashed through a watery test required for certification.
The test helps determine whether water could get ingested into the 747’s engines if the jet is in standing water. To perform the test, Boeing workers coat the belly of the 747 with pink dye before the jumbo jet runs through a shallow pond of water on a runway.
