VETERANS DAY EVENTS
The Mill Creek Veterans Day celebration includes several events to honor “Service; Past, Present and Future.”
The commemorative ceremony begins at 9 a.m. Monday at Veterans Monument in Mill Creek’s Library Park, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway. A wreath, boots, rifle and helmet will be on site to pay tribute to the service of veterans. A local Girl Scout troop will pass out poppies to observers to place at the foot of Veterans Monument.
Military memorabilia and vehicles will be staged along Main Street and inside merchant display windows.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. and will go through Mill Creek Town Center to Mill Creek City Hall. The parade features military and high school bands, color guards, vintage military vehicles, local community organizations and local veterans and their families. The City of Sultan and Sultan VFW Post 2554 will have a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the All Veterans Memorial Wall. A reception follows at Sultan City Hall, 319 Main Street. The colors will be posted by Sultan Cub Scout Pack 52.
In honor of Veterans Day, the U.S. Forest Service is waiving fees for all day-use recreation sites in Washington and Oregon on Nov. 11. The fee waiver includes many picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads and visitor centers. Fees for camping, cabin rentals, heritage expeditions or other permits still apply. A dance honoring veterans, ages 50 and older, featuring the 16-piece swing band Route 66, with special Veterans Day ceremonies, food and refreshments is 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Carl Gipson Senior Center’s Cascade View Hall, 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett. More info: 425-257-8780
At 11:11 a.m. on Nov. 11, Washington State Ferries will observe two minutes of silence to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
Brown Bear Car Wash will offer free washes to all current or former members of the military on Veterans Day. The free “Beary Clean” washes will be offered at 26 tunnel wash locations. More info: www.brownbear.com

Northwest Veterans Museum: The Northwest Veterans Museum is located in the Wicker Building at Heritage Park, 19921 Poplar Way, Lynnwood. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: The nonprofit provides interest-free loans and grants for emergency and unexpected financial needs for active duty, retired military and their family members. Hero’s Café: Hero’s Café, a social gathering for veterans, meets 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. fourth Tuesdays (except December, on the third Tuesday) at Verdant Health and Wellness Community Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Veterans can share a cup of coffee and their stories. The program is a partnership between local veterans groups and the city of Lynnwood.
