Half a century ago, if you took a walk around your neighborhood you wouldn’t have been surprised to see at least a few people working on their vehicles.
Back then car maintenance wasn’t rocket science — it’s different now.
“Vehicles have become very technical. You don’t see people changing the oil in their driveways as much anymore,” says Chuck Watts from Z Sport Automotive.
Engine mechanics are one thing; modern vehicles now include adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering, bluetooth entertainment systems and other high-tech features that take a lot of extra expertise.
“You now need a high level of professional and technical knowledge to take care of your car,” Watts says. “That’s what we’re good at, and that’s what we look for in technicians.”
All-star mechanics
Watts compares the Z Sport technicians to basketball stars with an impressive toolkit of fundamental skills. From luxury cars to domestic trucks and fuel-efficient sedans, they can make sense of what’s under the hood.
“Some athletes are good in one team’s system, but if you put them into a different system they’re going to have problems. Then there are all-stars who are good at everything — they have all the basics down, and will thrive in any system on any team.”
Z Sport’s primary goal has always been to take care of customers, and building a strong team of professionals with high-level knowledge is a big part of that.
“You can’t memorize every component of every car these days, they’re too complex. But a talented technician can research, diagnose and repair vehicles in a 3-D environment — those are the fundamentals,” Watts says. “Our technicians have an incredible amount of spatial intelligence — and I can tell you from experience that’s a skill not everyone has. To read up on a vehicle and then apply that in the real world is a rare talent.”
What Z Sport can do for you and your car in 2021
Not only do Z Sport technicians have the skills to service a wide range of vehicles, they have the freedom and creativity to solve problems more efficiently.
“Dealerships may have talented technicians, but they can be stifled by the manufacturers and forced to make repairs a certain way,” Watts says. “We can do it the right way the first time.”
Hear a strange noise that needs a diagnosis? Having some high-tech hiccups? The team at Z Sport will find a solution, just like they’ve done for over 30 years.
