LYNNWOOD — Two women died in a crash between a stolen minivan and an SUV on Tuesday morning in Lynnwood, police said.
At about 9:55 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen minivan at a park and ride in Lynnwood, according to Lynnwood police. The woman driving the van drove erratically, striking another car in the park and ride, causing a door on the minivan to come off.
The van drove out of the parking lot and got into two more minor crashes before approaching 44th Avenue W and 168th Street SW, according to police. The driver crossed over the center line, driving north on 44th Avenue W. The van struck a southbound SUV head-on, killing a 69-year-old woman driving the SUV.
The crash also killed the minivan driver, police said. Investigators suspected drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. Lynnwood police spokesperson Maren McKay said officers weren’t pursuing the minivan at the time of the crash.
Police closed 44th Avenue W as they investigated. The road was expected to remain closed for several hours.
