Kevin Lord of Everett did a double-take after seeing double on a recent drive home. At the intersection of Rockefeller Avenue and 37th Street, there was a second stop sign professionally mounted to the pole just above the ground.
Lord continued on home, grabbed the dog for a walk, and snapped a photo to share. “What is with this?”
There are reports of cities elsewhere in the country that have resorted to double stop signs to drive home the importance of coming to a full stop at problem intersections.
But that wasn’t the case here.
“This is a temporary safety measure,” reports Marla Carter, a spokesperson with the Everett Public Works department.
Foliage was blocking the main sign. The second sign was put up while the city worked with the property owner to address the situation. On Oct. 27, the foliage was trimmed and the second sign was removed.
