LYNNWOOD — Authorities were searching Monday for multiple people accused of opening fire at police, who fired back.
Around 7 p.m. Sunday, officers were investigating a theft in the Target parking lot at 18305 Alderwood Mall Parkway when they saw a stolen Hyundai enter the lot, according to the Lynnwood Police Department. The Hyundai appeared to target two teens, 13 and 15, walking through the parking lot.
The Hyundai driver intentionally hit the 15-year-old boy, sending him to the ground with minor injuries, police said Monday afternoon. Investigators believe there was no prior relationship between the occupants of the Hyundai and the teens.
Officers tried to stop the people in the Hyundai, but they drove away, police said. Officers pursued. The chase led onto an I-5 south ramp at 36th Avenue W.
Police performed what’s known as a PIT maneuver and trapped the suspects’ car. Before officers could get out of their patrol cars, the suspects ran away, shooting at police, who returned fire. No officers were injured, according to the department.
Lynnwood police were searching for three suspects Monday. Investigators believe they were picked up by others after the chase.
No suspect descriptions were released.
Anyone with information on the identities of the suspects can contact Lynnwood police Detective Russ Satarov at 425-670-5633 or rsattarov@lynnwoodwa.gov.
