Kids are real winners of softball tourney

Lake Stevens Fire and Lake Stevens Police thank the Lake Stevens community for its support at the annual Guns ‘n Hoses Softball Challenge held Aug. 2. Deejay Bob Justice provided the sound system, Ashlee Compton sang the national anthem and Pam Stevens was the game announcer. Also donating their time and expertise as umpires: Gary Smith, Dave Lauer and Craig Clark.

This year Lake Stevens Fire won the game, 22-13. In addition, the event collected three large boxes of school supplies for the Lake Stevens Family Center, including paper, spiral notebooks, highlighters, crayons, pencils, erasers and glue sticks.

The center could still use donations of backpacks and binders. The Lake Stevens Police Department will continue taking donations through Aug. 8. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2211 Grade Road.
