Road plans up for public discussion at hearing

The public has a chance to comment July 14 on long-term road plans for Marysville.

The hearing is scheduled during a meeting of the Marysville City Council at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

The City Council plans to take public comments on the city’s transportation plans for the next six years.

Arlington

Auction to raise scholarship funds

The Kiwanis Club of Arlington has scheduled its annual Fourth of July auction to benefit college scholarships for Arlington and Lakewood high school students.

The auction is noon Friday at Haller Park, 1100 West Ave. Viewing and a silent auction begin at 11 a.m. Items to be auctioned include lunch for four with Mayor Margaret Larson, along with a tour of the city.

Last year the club awarded four $2,000 scholarships.

Linda Byrnes named parade grand marshal

Linda Byrnes, former superintendent of the Arlington School District, has been named the grand marshal of the 116th annual Fourth of July Parade in Arlington.

Byrnes, who led the district for 12 years and for whom the city’s performing arts center is named, is celebrating her first week of retirement.

The parade, sponsored by Cascade Valley Hospital and Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce, is set for 5 p.m. After a year hiatus while Olympic Avenue was repaired, the parade route returns to the downtown street.

Parade entry forms can be picked up at City Hall, 238 N. Olympic Ave.

Darrington

Board positions open

The town is looking for volunteers to fill vacant positions on Darrington’s planning commission and the airport board of commissioners.

One planning commissioner and two airport board members are needed.

Share ideas for the future

The Town Council wants to know what hopes and visions people have for the future of the town. The council is asking residents write down their thoughts and submit them by July 15. The council plans to use the comments to formulate its own vision for the community.
