OLYMPIA — A Fort Lewis soldier who went AWOL after returning from a 15-month combat deployment in Iraq is in jail in Olympia after his arrest Thursday on suspicion of three residential burglaries.
A U.S. Army platoon sergeant says the 22-year-old soldier has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder since returning from Iraq in September.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says it took three deputies to subdue and apprehend the soldier, who had a loaded revolver and disarmed a deputy’s stun gun during his arrest. The soldier was about to use the stun gun on the deputy when a second deputy arrived, using a second stun gun to subdue the soldier.
