BOTHELL — Bothell Fire Chief Warren Burns has resigned.

City officials said Burns left the job after being placed on paid administrative leave on Feb. 20.

Bothell city spokeswoman Joyce Goedeke said she could not provide details about why Burns was placed on leave, saying it was a personnel matter, and private.

Burns is a well-known Snohomish County fire official who served the city of Everett for nearly 25 years before taking the Bothell job in September 2006.

His departure was preceded by a city investigation, Bothell Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Allen said.

Burns’ last day with the city was March 31, Goedeke said. The chief notified fire department staff of his departure by e-mail last week.

Deputy Fire Chief Rudy Alvarado has been appointed the acting chief while the city searches for Burns’ replacement.

“We are starting the process of looking for a new chief,” Allen said.

Before joining Bothell, Burns worked for the city of Everett for 24 years. He was the fire marshal and an assistant chief when he left.

When Burns took the Bothell position, he said the job was an opportunity to test his limits and expand his abilities.

Burns was selected as the top choice for the job from 42 applicants.
