BELLINGHAM — Classes started Monday at Bellingham Technical College where a strike delayed the beginning of the fall term.

A tentative contract agreement was reached Saturday between administrators and the union for faculty members. The instructors approved the agreement Sunday and the board of trustees is expected to approve it at Monday night’s meeting.

The Bellingham Education Association said the strike that started Sept. 24 was the first public college faculty strike in Washington since 1988. Major issues were salaries and workload.

Bellingham Technical College has about 8,000 students. It offers 30 associate degrees and 50 certificate programs.
