County Council overturns Reardon budget vetoes

The Snohomish County Council voted unanimously today to override three vetoes by County Executive Aaron Reardon.

All had rejected parts of the county’s 2008 budget.

Reardon on Friday vetoed two portions of the budget that approved a 1 percent property tax increase for the county roads fund. He also vetoed another section that shifted control of personnel policies.

The council needed at least four votes to override the vetoes. The council three-member Democratic majority, Dave Gossett, Dave Somers and Kirke Sievers, took the lead to reverse Reardon and were joined by the council’s two Republican members, John Koster and Gary Nelson.
