MUKILTEO — A parade of neighbors and their attorneys urged the Snohomish County Council on Tuesday to overturn the approval of a 112-home subdivision planned in the Picnic Point area, but no decision is expected until next month.
They were speaking during an appeal hearing for the Frognal Estates subdivision. The project would occupy 22 acres of steep, forested terrain behind Picnic Point Elementary School. It would build out the last large piece of undeveloped land in an area zoned for urban growth and future annexation by Mukilteo.
A neighborhood group called the Picnic Point Preservation Committee and the Regatta Estates Homeowners Association are trying to overturn hearing examiner Peter Camp’s decision from May that green-lighted plans for Frognal Estates. Attorneys and several neighbors spoke.
Their concerns include the safety of children walking to school, drainage on the steep slopes and whether covenants would allow the developer to put homes on a specific lot.
An attorney for the developer, Integral Northwest of Everett, challenged their arguments.
The County Council listened to both sides and agreed to reconvene the hearing at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 1 to reach a decision.
