SEATTLE — A Snohomish County man who robbed a police informant in April while armed with an AK-47 was sentenced Friday to three years in federal lockup.
Kevin Knowles, 20, and codefendant Corey Michael Gonzales arranged in April to meet with a man to sell him high-powered weapons, according to prosecutors. The defendants were unaware that the would-be buyer was working with law enforcement. The meeting was being monitored by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who had launched an investigation into gun trafficking in early 2011.
Instead of selling the guns, Knowles, Gonzales and two other men used the weapons to rob the informant of $900 provided to him by law enforcement.
The men were tracked down and arrested in the days after the robbery.
Knowles was convicted of conspiracy to rob property of the U.S. He’ll be under federal supervision for three years once he’s released from prison.
Gonzales is scheduled to be sentenced in March.
